Baby Thomas, newborn portraits

Tiny Thomas was a little superstar for his newborn portraits, I love how newborn babies have the cutest little frowns, like little old men, so wise!

Thomas’ parents brought along a little cuddly elephant for photos as well which I always love to photograph with newborn babies for size comparison, its important to capture just how tiny they are!

As ever though I love the photos with his Mum & Dad cuddling him, these are the cutest little moments and a massive reason why I love newborn photography in Cumbria.

Springtime mini sessions – Sheffield

Now we live in Cumbria we still occasionally visit Sheffield for weddings or for seasonal family photo sessions.

One of my favourite times of year is springtime when the daffodils are emerging and the blossom trees are in bloom.

Sheffield Botanical Gardens are amazing in early April. If the weather is nice you might not even need a coat!

With the closeness to Easter it’s fun for kids to bring along bunny ears or accessories to make it even more entertaining.

I do short family photo sessions and every year it’s so lovely to see so many familiar faces and meet new families.

We have lots of fun running around, hiding in daffodil patches and picking up blossom flowers for confetti.

This year’s springtime minis are advertised on the website now https://portraitsbyhelen.co.uk/shop/ if you would like to book in

Baby Ace – newborn portraits

Baby Ace is the latest addition to a lovely family I had the pleasure of meeting a few years ago when I photographed his parents wedding in Carlisle.

After a difficult loss it was a pleasure to welcome Ace to the family, his big brother was a superstar for his photos too.

As a beautiful rainbow baby it was nice to add some rainbow touches to his newborn portraits with a fab blanket and hearts.

Ace was so cute and sleepy and then we had time for photos with his big brother and family too. I love family portraits where everyone cuddles up and laughs together, these are the most natural and a pleasure to capture.

It’s always lovely to see a family grow and to photograph families throughout the years.

Contact me if you are due with your baby this year – newborn portraits can be booked in around your due date.

Christmas mini sessions 2023

Well I have now completed all my Christmas mini sessions now and what a year it has been.

It has been so lovely to catch up with families I have photographed before as they are growing and to meet new children too.

We have had fun with snowballs, cuddly toys and my new prop addition, the Elton John glasses!

I also spent two sessions with the lovely kids and parents at the two by two toddler group in Fletchertown as well where we did lots of singing to try and raise the smiles!

It is all worth it and a great idea to give to family as Christmas presents.

If you are looking for some up to date photos of your family drop me a message, I will be running some winter studio mini dates in Jan/Feb.

Happy Christmas to you all!

Iona, maternity portraits in Keswick

Iona was close to 36 weeks pregnant when I met her and her hubby for photos in Keswick. She looks amazing!

I usually do maternity portraits indoors in my studio but as we live in such a beautiful area its lovely to do these sessions outside (when the weather permits!). Its also fab if you are not keen on getting your bump out for photos!

We met by the lake in Keswick for the photo session. The sun was shining and it was the perfect frosty afternoon. We wandered by the lake then popped down to the jetty for photos before heading up to Friar’s Crag for photos with the stunning views.

Excited to see when baby arrives! Good luck to you both and enjoy your Christmas!

Iona is a Cumbrian local, however, if you are on holiday in the Lakes and want to capture your baby bump let me know, on location maternity photographs are so much fun!

Daisy – newborn portraits

I met Jasmine when she was around 36 weeks pregnant so it was a pleasure to capture her new arrival; Daisy when she was a few weeks old.

Daisy was a little star for her photos as soon as she was wrapped up and cosy. We found lots of cute hats and headbands for her to wear!

Her big sister was a superstar too, posing for her photos and holding Daisy, such a cute little bond.

I love the photos of baby Daisy with Mum and Dad too, at one point we even thought Daisy was eating Dad’s nose!

Such a cute little family, a pleasure to capture this moment in your lives!

Are you due a baby in 2024? Contact me to book in a date around your due date if you would like me to capture your new arrival!

Willow & Eva – Lingholm portraits, Keswick

I first met Willow and Eva in Sheffield for a photo session there in the bluebells so it was lovely to be asked to capture their family holiday at Lingholm Estate in Keswick.

Lingholm gardens are a fantastic place and guests have access to the jetty too. It was a shame it was typical Cumbrian weather for their photo session but that didn’t dampen the girls enthusiasm!

There was jumping, running and posing galore and then time to warm up afterwards with a hot chocolate!

Capturing families on holiday in the Lake District is something I really enjoy and its a great way to capture memories for your family.

Freddie – cake smash

Its always great to see babies again after their newborn portraits and celebrate their first birthday and what better way to celebrate than with cake!

Freddie arrived at the studio raring to go, we had lots of fun first with balloons and blocks and playing peekaboo and wind the bobbin up, he has the most adorable smile!

After having some fun first we then presented him with a fab cake (provided by Delicious Doughnuts and delights). Freddie was gentle with the cake at first, prodding the cream but soon with the addition of a spoon he decided to use this to help him smash the cake, even putting his feet in it!

When he had enough of the cake we cleaned up and popped him in a bath where we had fun blowing bubbles!

I do love a cake smash, its such a fun way to celebrate your first birthday!

Harper & Ezra, Keswick family photos

If you are on holiday in the Lakes what better way to capture those memories than with a family photo session.

We headed to Keswick by the lake side for a family photo session with Harper and Ezra and family. Ezra wasn’t too keen on the camera until we headed to the lake for stone throwing!

Derwentwater has lots of geese and ducks by the water’s edge and they are usually always hungry so getting some bird food was a good idea although a cheeky goose stole poor Harper’s bag of food!

We also headed onto the jetty for photos too. Lovely happy memories. Natural family photos of everyone having fun are my favourite.

Contact me if you are planning a family holiday to the Lake District and would like some up to date photos!

Stephanie – Maternity portraits

Maternity portraits in Cumbria are a great idea. Capturing the last few weeks before baby arrives and before two become three!

Stephanie was around 36 weeks when she came to the studio with her husband for some maternity photos.

My studio is based in Fletchertown near Aspatria and Wigton. The advantage of the studio in the summertime is that outside there is some lovely spaces for photos too so we made sure to take advantage of the sunshine!

Stephanie brought a few outfits for the photos as well as using some of the maternity gowns I have as well. Little props are good to use as well like scan photos and baby booties.

Its lovely to see people come back with their babies afterwards too – stay tuned for baby portraits!
